Some earlier Ward "good girl" art that I have from the July 1956 and March 1957 issues of TV Girls and Gags. If you enjoyed my WenzelGirls post from last week, then you're gonna love this!
(*Bill Ward sometimes signed his work "McCartney".)
I've always liked this guy's work. It's a strange, surreal world where the women are strapping, hypersexual Amazons and the men are nearly always balding, anemic shlubs.
Maybe it's because next to a stunningly gorgeous woman, ALL MEN actually are balding, anemic shlubs. Without a doubt the point to most of these type gags is to show how much more power the ladies have over the men, even when they're being caveman'd off by some dude attemtping to take charge (how long does that sort of powertrip last anyway after tying the knot?) I know how easily I can fall prey to a beautiful set of, um, eyes.

ReplyDeleteboy, those were the days- when men were balding, anemic shlubs and women were strapping, hypersexual Amazons!...

ReplyDeleteWell, then the other point to these gags is how, once a woman ages, she becomes a worthless dupe. So who has the power again?

ReplyDeleteThe women do of course-- just look at all the balding, anemic shlubs looking for younger girls!
