Bugs Bunny in Something Fishy is a gorgeously painted kids book published by Whitman in 1955, and adapted by Alfred Abranz and Norm McGary. I've had this book ever since I can remember along with a towering pile of other great Tell-a-Tales that I will be posting here at AEET over time. I'd venture to say most Bugs Bunny fans like myself probably prefer the stories where Bugs is in complete control of the rules and carnage (in this one he sort of gets his bushy little tail handed to him), but it's still a colorful, fast paced story none the less and each page is nothing short of stunning eye candy.
Gasp. I had this book as a kid and literally read it and loved it to pieces. I went on a 3 year Ebay quest and finally found another one. I could have saved myself a lot of frustration if I'd have known you'd be posting it. Thanks sir!
ReplyDeleteI love these Tell-A-Tale books. Their painted images are the best. Seems like there were a lot of them about Bugs Bunny, and instead of him getting the upper hand like he did in the cartoons, he always came out the loser in these books.
Absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLike in these Tell-A-Tales books (which I had forgotten about), the Bugs of the Dell comics was often a highly energized schemer whose schemes often went wrong. He was in a constant state of reacting to fate rather than the Warner character of dominating cool.
Hot damn, look at that art. What a beautiful shark!
More. More.
i think i may have read this story in another form, because i remember certain plot points from it, in particular the minnow jumping out of his flipper!...
ReplyDelete>3 year Ebay quest
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't realize this one was so hard to find... my son's kindergarten class last year had a copy of it on their shelf but it was seriously scribbled all over with crayons.
>More. More.
You know the answer to that, Mykal!
>in particular the minnow jumping out of his flipper!...
Maybe that actually happened to you? Thanks for the comments, chums!
I'm pretty sure I had this one too. I hope the stupid mice didn't get to it and its just packed in a box somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI am driven mad with the desire to find a creepy children's book that we had in the classroom in first grade. The book featured an evil spirit in a bottle. At the end of the book, it comes out of the bottle and GOTCHA! I would sell major organs to find a copy of this book. I have no idea who it was by. So...good luck on that, I reckon.
I enjoy being reminded of the good parts of my childhood (not all of it was good) and remembering that I was once an energetic six year old who ran around the track at the high school more times than I could count before I got tired. Now I'm a tired old fart who has fibromyalgia and is getting arthritis as an added bonus. But I still can be cheered by this stuff.
