Skating Vanities of 1949

How about a few page highlights from a 1949 Skating Vanities brochure booklet today? Beautiful painted cover, lovely interior lay-outs and color overlays, pro skaters dressed as animals and snowmen, not to mention the endless array of gorgeous gals on wheels! I have to admit though, my favorite detail are all of those great little illustrated characters stumblin' around throughout, falling on their butts, but still having themselves a whirly-bird of a time! So many great concepts and costumes on display here-- it almost puts the Ice Capades to shame... almost. I'm also guessing this production wasn't for kids, as the burlesque themes seem rather obvious.

The Painted Lady Death Patrol

A top tier, early entry in the legendary, lengthy comic book career of Mad Magazine maestro, Dave Berg can be found in today's Death Patrol tale from the January 1942 issue of Military Comics #6. After taking over the series from Jack Cole just a few issues prior, Berg injected a dynamic dose of unique cartooning to this group of lovable ex-con squadron aviators on their endless suicide missions against the nasty ass nazis-- and even better, as in todays example where they face an oddly beautiful array of sinister, sexy spies! While only six pages long, this awesome little adventure is seriously packed to the gills with great moments, and if the lurid painted ladies don't take your breath away, that cross-section building beat-down surely will!

Royal Recipe Parade '42

'Ten shun! Who asked for a fun 40's gelatin 'n pudding recipe booklet populated by puny lil parading puppet people pictures? You did, that's who! And if you didn't, here they come now anyway in all of their cutesy puniness. Okay, puniness aside, this post is actually huge, and everything you see below was exhaustingly photographed and edited on my Iphone, so of course once I imported every image over to my Mac here at home, you can clearly see all of my crappy contrast 'n poorish paint edits sticking out like a dumb sore thumb. Annnnnd seeing as how much time 'n energy I had already pumped into this beast, I guess I'll just call it a day and you'll all just hafta deal with it! Meanwhile, the definitely worth looking for booklet itself is actually still full of tons more terrific puny puppet people imagery, --and least we forget those 171 rockin' Royal recipes teased on the cover too! ADA Milk Maid Glass

I found this cute ADA (American Dairy Association) milk maid collector glass recently, and after tirelessly researching it, still have not unearthed much information about it. There is of course very much online info about ADA itself, as well as the rich history behind the "Alice in Dairyland" program which began back in 1948. But, despite all of my tugging and squeezing of the 'ol internet tit for more, and whether or not this lovely milk maid mascot glass illustration below is part of that fine tradition too, well... let's just say I'm left udderly clueless.
