Movieland Wax Museum Monsters

If you're enjoying the Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery post over at THOIA HERE, then come and see what equally strange creatures await you today at AEET! Why, it's Boris again, and he's even brought along Bela and Lon! This is an incredible terror trio of vintage 1960's or 70's postcards originally found at Movieland Wax Museum's gift shop in Buena Park, CA! Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, and The Phantom of the Opera, perfectly rendered in wax and posed in their natural, eerie environs, --and with a truly great use of lighting and atmosphere as well. I've also included each photo caption as it appears on the backside of the postcards.

  1. I've never been to a wax museum! But I love this stuff, the diaoramas and staging and getting the 3D part of it right (basically trying to get focal points against a necessary flat background wether it's a castle wall or blue swamp) is really a skilled art.

I like that you get 2 movie stars for 1 in the Dracula picture. Poor Helen Chandler, forever caught at the moment of a vampire's embrace! The trees and foliage are always very good.

My favorite prop is the corpse in the coffin!

Maybe I'll visit Niagara and catch the Frankenstein Burger King and take in a wax museum!

  2. Postcards from the Wax Museum (cue theremin)! Man I dearly love the colored lighting in places like that. The wax dummies are no slouch either. Ten out of ten!

  3. Oh I could wax on and on about these! So fabulously creepy and perfectly lit and composed…I love it! Too bad this museum was long gone by the time I lived in that ‘hood 🥲

  4. STL has a wonderful riverfront wax museum with a decent Chamber of Horrors, --located practically next door to The Arch! If you've never been (and it's been a few years for me), we should plan a visit soooon! https://stlwaxmuseum.com/
