The Modern Girl Cooks With Gas

And then depending on what delicious dish she prepares from the amazing selection of recipes included in this vintage 60's booklet (see Bean Dip Ole below!) --she might also produce some gas of her own! In any event, it's all a fun little, 6-page, freebie reminder about the benefits of using natural gas. The kitschy cool party and BBQ artwork, not to mention the rad hand lettering throughout, is equally the icing on your lip-smackin' luncheon kabob kookery! (Please keep those orange glazed carrots as far away from me as possible though-- ugh!) Also, some of you long-time followers of this blog may remember the fiery lil Penny Flame mascot from a previous AEET 2012 post when she was depicted as an indian princess-- HERE!

  1. 6 pages of some of the most hard sell on gas I've ever seen. I want to open a gas processing plant after reading this, I'm sold!

The illustrations are cute, but there's some clever stuff in what is pretty much "you will die without gas" sales pitch. "In Hot Water" paneled in a boiling tank, "how the low temperature" in a thermometer, the snacks in a bowl, etc. That's going over and above for whoever produced this. Bravo!

  3. Oh my yes, this is a very well decorated pamphlet. From a distance, all its spot-colored title treatments and clip arts and illustrations are super lively in aggregate. It kind of has the concentrated look of a comic book ad page. Or the way I remember the yellow pages in the phone book looking. I particularly like the backyard barbecue image and all the hand lettering throughout. Especially the "pizza pie" and "crispy hot snacks" titles on page two.
