Hedy De Vine

Got a half dozen one-pager comedy cutie escapades for you today, all taken from assorted issues of Hedy De Vine Comics, and Hedy of Hollywood Comics, both published by Marvel throughout the late 40's and early 50's, with various artists assigned to capture her perfectly pretty, though somewhat dim-witted good girl curves and silly antics. And FYI: No relation to Hedy Lamarr!

  1. If anything, here in these comments, I have to be completely honest: I really laughed at that first one, and then I promised that would be the end of it but I liked the last gag, too!

I see Hedy invented the broke-back pose in that first panel on the first gag strip.

Some Marvel trivia -- Hedy was kind of a sister comic to Patsy Walker, where Patsy is in modern Marvel Hellcat and Hedy is kind of her frenemy. I really like the character and what Marvel has done with her. I think the Patsy comic went on for TWENTY years!

  2. I laughed at that last one, too. I don't think I've ever seen that joke before. I mean, I feel like characters are often getting knocked out of boats or boning up the Tunnel of Love process somehow, but being so eager to get there that you just wade right on in? Cute.

The art on these is nice, but the cover art--especially on the Hedy de Vine titles--is really great. It sort of reminds me of C.C. Beck.

  3. These are some great comics. Wish there were reprint books of these.
I just picked up the latest Vampires! book and am eager to have some time to enjoy it, maybe in a few days.
    Thanks!
