Ocean Commotion

Let's head to the bottom of the sea today with Professor Transistor --plus, a couple of mad movie makers-- to find a new monster for the moving picture show! I always did think Bride of the Creature (from the Black Lagoon) sounded like a great idea. See also: Son of the Creature.

  2. Wow, they really used some big dots in the color process separations here. I guess the better the printing--the better the paper, too--the finer a twenty-five or fifty percent screen could be. Here it's the same screen percentage, but at maybe twenty DPI instead of the usual sixty. The opposite of fine. I really dig the look on this cartoony art.

    I love the She-Creech, too. I also love the bottom two panels of deep-deep sea fauna on page two. Great stuff.

  3. Pages are actually scanned from a digest sized reprint, that’s why the dots looks so big... I suppose I could’ve mentioned that, haha

  4. Ha! So here's a simpler explanation!

    Whatever it was, I really love the look. My experience digest reprints was mostly hundred-page Harvey books at the top of the Hey Kids! spinners at the grocery store when I was a kid; sometimes they were packaged three-to-a-bag for, like, a dollar--and I remember those being in black and white. Is that right? So I didn't even think about the likelihood of these being color digests. Much as I like the effect, I think I'm going to have to dig up some of these for myself.
