Look-a-Like Looks

Here's a fun little hairdo article from the August 1966 issue of Modern Beauty Shop magazine, featuring adorable fashionettes molding their lovely locks into a flippy, swirly, cute 'n curly, assortment of fetching, frizz-free styles. The wilder and more vortexy the better, I always say! Also, I'm under the impression that if enough people comment on this post, roller queen Crafty Pants Carol herself is going to do up her own hair in one of these sensational styles to show us all (step by step even) how it willy works! So let's hear from everyone-- comment NOW!

  1. you are reeeeally dreaming, karswell. there ain't gonna be no step by step nothin!!!

and frankly every girl in here looks like they have a wig on. either than or they used a whole jar of dippity doo for each hairstyle. those styles aren't going anywhere - even in a hurricane!

i really really love the curler illustrations. they're the most groovy stylized ones ive ever seen. and the look on that very last chick's face is hilarious!

  3. There's some heavy photo editing in these. Swirly Cute particularly looks unnatural.

Does those two girls have to flip for who got the more embarrassing of the color-reversed looks?

  4. Bah. I love the cut on the top of page two, with its little curled layers and shapes back end. She looks like her head has been frosted. Like a cake! That's the one I hope Carol does first. I'll bet that one's cute as hell in person. But the poor girl on page six, who looks great in her before picture, is pure Laverne after her re-do though. For the love of god, don't do that one, Carol.

  8. I'm afraid of how long it'll take that flippy fringe bang to grow back out, frankly. That's the kinda haircut I think of as a "lifer."

  11. Here is an idea for you Craftypants Carol,

Buy a Barbie doll and subject her to all of the hairstyles in this post and post the end result on your blog (or would that be cruelty to dolls?)

Who knows? It isn't too late to become a hairstylist and start a new career. C'mon! Show your crafty side in hair styling.

  12. the craftiest you're gonna get out of me these days is a barbie doll sized curler wrapped around my toe hairs. i wonder if they make a toe hair style and hold product...like Dippity Toe? i'd buy that!
