A Girl and Her Refrigerator

Super illustrations highlight this booklet from GM Corp Frigidaire Division's "101 Refrigerator Helps" published in 1941. No artistic credit is given, and I'm sure someone will look at these images and think they're "creepy" or whatever, but I think they're incredibly cute and fun-- yes, this sassy young lass and her beefcake fridge know how to get it done-- whether it's the simple use of the refrigerator, or the care of it, or dancing for it!! Everything you could ever want to know about food and refrigerator's is covered here on all 32 wonderful pages. There's a lot of detail given into these drawings, all of which gets a bit lost in the actual size they're reproduced in this booklet. And that's why once again I've given the scans the x300 treatment, so enjoy! And seriously, don't knock an inanimate object (or food) just because it has a face on it. Or because it has arms. And legs. And a... ??!!

  3. I can't wait to see the .gif!

New confessions (and I mean brand new, just-realized confessions!): Along with art representations of textiles and screams in word-balloons and any picture of people occupying a car interior, I totally love illustrations and photos of open fridges. I like the idea of the artist's fantasy of an attractively-filled appliance, the tacit suggestion of where to place groceries, guessing what those things might be, etc. Fantastic! It's like pictures from Grey's Anatomy, an open body filled with organic parts, coded by shape and spot color. Scans one, four, and eight are particularly satisfying.

I also like the one where the distraught fridge is sitting in the chair (eleven). Taken out of context, it looks kind of like he dropped in on some dude as he was reading a newspaper with a five-thirty cocktail. That poor dude's feet are sticking out like the stockinged stems of the wicked witch of the east.

    1. I hear ya, I'm freaky for fridge pix too, especially pix of fridges with illustrated people doing exciting things with photos of food-- and / or illustrated pix of food mingling with real people. I'm easy
