Space Youth '72 ---PLUS Rib Ticklers!

Brunswick Worsted Mills, Inc. had the fantastic forsight to see into the future (of 1972) when launching this timeless "Space Youth" fashion mission. Yes, what better material is there to cover and protect your bare flesh while hurtling through the cold, infinite void of silent space than Brunswick's fine worsted fabrics! This post further rounded out with some equally far-out "Rib Tickler" garments from Jupiter, aka 1971. Amazing what one can find while digging around through the dumpster at the public library, no?

  1. Profoundly humorous for anyone who survived the 1970's. Librarians who trash this shit should be SHOT and recycled into bloody pulp ;~j

  2. I was 5 in '72 and totally into space... my mom really dropped the ball on my clothing this year. And no offense to my local librarians, but I found a ton of this stuff discarded there (it was obviously donated by someone who made a lot of their own clothing.)

  3. Make no mistake. The future will rely heavily on tassels and knit caps. And all kidding aside, the greenish collarless belted button-up mid-calf houndstooth leisure jacket that the one boy is wearing would look great on Emma Peel. Don't forget the go-go boots, space boy!

  4. Hell, Diana Rigg would look good in a rib tickler!

  5. Steady as she goes on librarians gents ;) If librarians never threw out stuff (we call it "deselecting"), libraries would run out of space in no time and have no shelf space for new material. When the shelves reach their limit, you either let the collection become dead, or you make the tough call.
What did ya'll think, we wave a magic wand and store all the material in some never-never happy land for ever and ever?

Jesus, I'm an inch away from a full blown rant. I'll shut up.

  6. I'm pretty sure Dex was just pulling on your librarian card, Myk! We at AEET love and honor librarians, and all things book related.

  7. Oh, that devil! How did he know that the "deselection process" is a hot button for us librarians!

Actually, both you guys radiate respect for library's, books, and all things literate.

  9. I have gotten much cool stuff at library sales. Recently I bought four giant volumes of Robert Silverberg stories (which cost $40 apiece) for 50¢ each. I bought a second edition hardcover w/dj In Cold Blood for a buck. Some of the greatest books in my collection are from library discards. I'm always on the lookout for good deals, and they've got them.

  10. Pap: There are many such gems that come though our ongoing book sale. Recently, I saw a gentleman pick up several of those high-end Folio Edition (English publisher - smith sewn bindings, cases, illustrated with original art, high-grade acid-free paper, etc.) sets for virtually nothing (like $5.00 a book). We make about $12,000 a year on our booksale! It's actually a line item in our budget. Go, Library!

  11. I'm always finding gems like this at my local library, I recently scored some great 50s and 60s Halloween books I've never even heard of for a quarter each... I check the library a couple times a week. I also found Francis in the Haunted House on VHS!

  12. Hey Mykal ! I thought for sure you would pick up on the BLOODY PULP reference; which is an apropos plug via the Horrors of it All's Host with the Most's refined trash-pick'n eye. Thank goodness for dumpster divers. My there never be a fire like Alexandria's ever again ;~j

  13. ps: And in defense of the Library: Most of the things they pitch are the kinds of things that I donate once a year (ratty books,steam-wrinkled mags) ;~j

How in the hell did I miss that!! But then, being surprised by my own thickheadedness is something I was forced to give up long ago! Jeez, in my rush to defend the realm, I rushed right passed the front guard!
