One more vintage greeting card to round out March 2016, and though this Sangamon card (from the 60's or 70's?) is for a girl, tomorrow is actually my son's birthday, and since he is a groovy young rock 'n roller, this one still goes out to him like a long distance dedication --even though he's in the next room watching the great new Pee Wee Herman movie again! Swinging' fun artwork on the front, open up to find a 3 platter selection of flip-records with a different message printed on each label. Clever little card for my clever little kid! Happy 12th Birthday, Zander-A-Go-Go!

An Easter Puzzle For You
A cute vintage Easter card from the 50's or 60's featuring lovely blue bunny art and highlighted by a ball bearing maze game inside that is visible through a die-cut hole on the cover (sorry that part is blurry but it's raised hollow plastic and doesn't fit completely flat on my scanner.) Can you rotate the card around and get all the "eggs" to roll into Mr. Bunny's home?
We at AEET hope everyone had a great holiday today too!

Friday the 13th 3D Glasses (1982)
Some of you social media friends are already aware from recent posts about my son who is finally getting to watch the Friday the 13th films. Yes, a big rite of passage birthday is approaching, and as I promised years ago, MOST horror films would become available to him once he turned the ripe 'ol age of 12. Now he's finally nearing said age, and I suppose it's ok or somehow appropriate to watch bouncing boobs and buckets of bloodshed and brutality in a repeated manner over a series of I don't really even know how many films (I think we're on Friday the 13th #5 or 6 now-- as if it matters, they're all pretty much the same movie over and over, some being more entertaining than others.) And I must say it's only been moderately tedious for me to revisit this fun franchise, as I remember seeing at least the first 4 in the theatre when they were originally first released. And while watching part three the other night (which was filmed in 3D) I was reminded that I actually still had my pair of theatrical 3D glasses from 1982 too! Here it is scanned from all sides, and features neat Jason Voorhees artwork and lots of blood drippin' everywhere-- no bare boobs though!

Birthday Purr-Puss
I purchased an amazing collection of vintage birthday cards a few weekends ago at an antique mall near Chicago, and here are just a few highlights that I edited together, plus a bit of time cleaning up since some of them weren't exactly in the greatest condition. Still, superb 50's, 60's, and 70's artwork and colors, typography and textures, and just all round cute kid (and grandma!) fun-- enjoy! :)

A Birthday Recipe of Treats (For Someone Sweet)
Another adorable thing I picked up on my recent adventure to Chicago was this incredible mid century Hallmark birthday card that also doubles as a recipe book! Full of tasty treat ideas, (I'm definitely going for the candy rolls!) and equally tasty illustrations by Pat Paris, this card, which is over a dozen pages long, is so sweet I could almost eat it-- staples and all! I'll have more vintage birthday cards in the next post, it's fitting as March is birthday overload month in my family.

Fun on the Road
Having just returned from my own incredibly exciting road trip, here we have some suggestions from a very cool 1950's Standard Oil booklet on how to have tons of fun on the road and make those long and windy miles just fly by! Games to play, like Ghost, or Beaver (!!!), tongue twisters, picnicking, camping, and sing-a-longs-- it's all here! And packed with cute illustrations too, this one's a definite pedal to the metal blast of high speed thrills!

All Kinds of Neighbors
AEET gets back on track (I hope!) with this cute short story highlighted by super artwork by Aliki and found in the Sounds Around the Clock collection, edited by Bill Martin, Jr. Published in 1966 by Holt, Rinehart, and Winston, Inc., there's another great story in this book about a circus family featuring more art by Aliki that I'll probably post later this month.
