Mugged at the Jekyll & Hyde Club

Nope, this isn't a return to Jekyll Island (dig that recent sun 'n fun post HERE though if you wish to revisit it!), --because instead, we're held rather tightly in the devastating grip of a nifty gift shop momento, via the unfortunately defunct Jekyll and Hyde Club of Greenwich Village, NY (RIP 1999 - 2022.) This is a nice 'n sturdy, ceramic mug featuring the sculpted likeness of the good doc and the bad mister, as well as the famous quote from Henry Jekyll himself right there on the back. Thanks to the creepy Creeches, Frankenstars, and other throat assaultin' fanged fiends, I kind of feel like DJ & MH get somewhat forgotten during this glorious monster-filled, Halloween season. So hey, this post is deadicated to him-- errr, --them! And what, pray tell, mysterious potion are we guzzling from this macabre mug, you ponder? Just give me a few seconds, the answer will become quite bludgeoningly clear to you! (Bottom photo below by Jim Henderson.)

  1. That's a great mug. The snazzy black and bone color scheme is really sharp. Also, it seems impossible to me that a club that awesome would ever go out of business. I mean, the picture makes it look like the perfect hybrid of dark ride and authentic British public house, which is certainly an ideal reflection of its subject(s).

  2. Yup that's a great mug ... they do so much with just the white mug and the black paint, and really give you the feeling of "two sides" or a person.

... and that front. That's glorious. Like a lot of those clubs, sometimes it's not as fun to be a member as the outside would show, but I'd love to be able to walk by there and say "I'm a member."

    1. And if the skeleton is / was actually an animatronic that tips his huge black hat --even better!
