Eeny... Meeny... Miney... Moe

Four cwazy faced coconuts are the perfect gift from the kid stuff page of Cobb's Gift Fruit catalog from 1949 (more from this booklet during our traditional "Xmas in July Fest" heading your way soon!) There's lots more coming up in May-- I'm experiencing a very busy month here, so apologies with the delays between posts at both blogs!

Growing African Violence

Yep, the cute booklet art just keeps coming, as we see here in this neat little "how to" guide from 1963 on growing and blooming tropical flowers in your own home. And ok, this post is actually called African Violets, --I thought African Violence might sound more exciting and possibly even pull in bigger google hits! Anyway, this 30+ page guide covers every aspect of this beautiful purple petaled plant and the proper care for it: origins, fertilizing, watering, transplanting, diagnosing troubles, pest control, varieties, etc. Annnnd I'm sure someone out there is going to have a problem with the cartoony African native illustrations in this guide, (I actually think they're pretty adorable), and the fabulously designed white woman determined to bring a taste of the jungle to her home is just a flat-out heartbreaker with those eye lashes! xoxox!

S-S-S-Wonderfuls

Assorted mid-century, mini recipe booklets highlighted by cute illustrated art. The Bar-S Holiday Ham booklet in particular is super and printed on some strangely thick, almost transparent parchment paper. I have nothing else like it in my collection. The other scans are booklet covers only, with nothing really much of interest inside, unfortunately... rounded out with a couple of super-sized scans from a teeny Pet Instant Drink cook book featuring dancing hot dogs and potatoes.

Tuna Round the World!

Had me a couple of delicious sushi birthday meals this past weekend, and as usual, this got me thinking about my blog, as well as a 1960's Van Camp Sea Food Company "Chicken of the Sea" booklet I have featuring everyone's favorite blonde mermaid cutie and a tremendous, overflowing net catch haul of amazing illustrations and tuna style recipes from "round the world!"

Touring '54

You've read up on how to be safe behind the wheel and "arrive alive" (see our previous post HERE), now it's time to learn about accommodations while out and about touring! Where ya gonna stay? And just as importantly-- where ya gonna eat??!! This wonderful Texaco brochure from 1954 has a few suggestions-- that is, if you can ever get beyond the amazing cover illustration!
